Father arrested for taking drugs to son in prison
The suspect, E.A., who went to visit his son A.S.A., a convicted prisoner in Lefkoşa (Nicosia) prison, for the Eid holiday, was arrested and brought before the court on charges of “Unlawful Acquisition and Possession of Narcotic Substances (Synthetic Cannabinoid)” after drugs were found hidden in the food containers he brought with him.
Police officer Ozan Özder, giving testimony in court regarding the case, presented the findings related to the incident. Ozan Özder stated that on May 27, 2026, at approximately 1:30 PM, a hand-rolled cigarette containing an as yet undetermined quantity of what is believed to be a narcotic substance mixed with tobacco was found hidden in the food containers brought by the suspect E.A., who was visiting his son A.S.A., a convicted prisoner in Lefkoşa New Central Prison for aggravated assault, and was seized as evidence.
The police stated that upon receiving information about the incident, the suspect was taken from the prison and brought to the police station.
The police stated that the suspect subsequently gave a voluntary statement, that this statement needed to be verified or corroborated, that the seized evidence would be sent for analysis, and that they were searching for the person from whom the substance was obtained.
They requested that the suspect be initially detained for three days for investigative purposes.
After evaluating the testimony given before her, Judge Zehra Y. Bilgeç ordered the suspect to be detained for three days for investigative purposes.
