Young people should first get to know their own culture and history
Bilal Erdoğan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Knowledge Dissemination Foundation, came together with young people at the "Meeting of Hearts" program held at the İshak Pasha Palace in Doğubayazıt district of Ağrı and drew attention to the importance of preserving cultural heritage, historical awareness and keeping traditional values alive.
Ağrı Governor Önder Bozkurt, AK Party Ağrı Deputy Ruken Kilerci, protocol members, students and citizens attended the program held at İshak Pasha Palace. Emphasizing in his speech that young people should first know their own culture, history and values, Erdoğan said, "If we know what belongs to us first, if we learn Turkish history first, then we can learn other cultures. Our young people stay away from things that belong to us, not because they do not like them, but because they do not know them enough."
Stating that he was successful in introducing the cultural elements and brands of the West, Erdoğan stated that Turkey's historical and cultural riches should be transferred to the younger generations in the same way. Expressing that Islamic, Seljuk and Ottoman civilizations left important legacies to humanity, Erdoğan said that these civilizations are universal civilizations that can keep different religions and cultures living together.
Touching on the importance of traditional sports, Bilal Erdoğan stated that young people have shown great interest in Turkish sports, especially traditional archery, in recent years and said, "One of the fastest growing federations in Turkey is the Traditional Turkish Sports Federation. Our young people embrace their own values as they get to know them."
Noting that the inspiration from history will shape the future, Erdoğan said that Turkey has achieved significant successes in the field of defense industry and technology today, citing Mehmet the Conqueror's technological approach in the conquest of Istanbul. Addressing the young people, Erdoğan said, "If we want to move forward with stronger steps into the future, we need to draw strength from our past. The branches of a tree with strong roots are also strong. We need to know our history, traditions and great figures of our civilization better."
After the program, Bilal Erdoğan visited İshak Pasha Palace and received information from the authorities.
