Is it right to have breakfast as soon as you wake up? The doctor explained

Cardiology Specialist Prof. Dr. Muhammed Keskin made important statements about a common habit performed in the morning and talked about the effects of breakfast timing on health.

Speaking about the intermittent fasting method, which has been talked about frequently in recent years, Keskin stated that the human body has not been used to consuming the first meal of the day immediately throughout history. Stating that our ancestors could not directly access food when they woke up in the morning, Keskin said that they first moved, looked for food and then consumed meals.

IT MAY BE USEFUL TO DELAY BREAKFAST A LITTLE
Assoc. Dr. Keskin stated that it is a better approach to start the day with light movements instead of having breakfast as soon as you wake up in the morning and said, "It may be considered healthier to wait half an hour or an hour after waking up, move a little if possible, and then have breakfast."
Keskin stated that having breakfast around 10:00-11:00 in the morning might be more suitable for some people, adding that this could create a more harmonious eating pattern with the body's natural rhythm.

**MAY LEAD TO FASTER HUNGER**
According to Keskin, eating immediately upon waking up leads to more frequent hunger throughout the day. On the other hand, the expert pointed out that this habit may also be related to the development of insulin resistance, emphasizing that the timing of breakfast is at least as important as its content.

**STARTING THE DAY WITH ACTIVITY IS RECOMMENDED**
The expert stated that simple habits such as taking short walks, doing stretching exercises, or starting daily activities in the morning can contribute to a more balanced metabolism. Therefore, it is suggested that starting the day with some exercise rather than directly eating may be more beneficial.

However, experts also emphasize that those with chronic illnesses, diabetes patients, and those following special dietary programs should consult their doctors before making changes to their meal times.
