The 5-storey building, which was being prepared for demolition within the scope of urban transformation in Güngören, allegedly collapsed on its own. Two adjacent buildings whose columns were damaged due to the collapse were evacuated.

The incident took place at 16.00 on Özyurt Street in Istanbul Güngören Merkez District. Preparations were made for the demolition of the 5-storey building on the street within the scope of urban transformation. Meanwhile, the building allegedly collapsed on its own.

During the incident, some walls and columns of the two 5-storey buildings next to the building collapsed. It was learned that the two damaged buildings and workplaces will be evacuated within the scope of urban transformation in approximately 1 month. The belongings of citizens and business owners living in the heavily damaged building were evacuated by the teams.

Business owner İbrahim Şen said, "I opened the shop, sat at the table, suddenly there was a noise and it shook like an earthquake. I went out, it was like a cloud of dust, I couldn't see anything. I looked at my neighbor's shop. The wall was completely inside. They told me 'don't enter, it's forbidden'. They said if necessary, it will be evacuated or it can be demolished without evacuating at all."

Bahattin Kuş, whose nephew's flat was damaged, said, "The existing building had to be demolished. The demolition process was carried out here under the supervision of the municipality with the demolition company agreed on this matter. The normal safety precautions were taken, but since the structural and physical strength of the building was weak, it damaged the buildings on the right and left when the building collapsed uncontrollably. As a result of this incident, since there was life in the existing buildings, the municipality would carry out the evacuation procedures by prioritizing the inspection and control under their own control. My nephew lives here. He has a university exam on the weekend. "He declared his release after the end of the investigation," he said.
